Location and Map

Port Waikato is tucked quietly away on the west coast of the New Zealand’s North Island. It is approximately 65km south of Auckland International Airport and 108 km north-west of Hamilton.

The most direct route to Port Waikato is via Pokeno. Why not purchase a big ice cream and some Pokeno bacon on the way!

From Hamilton:

Head north on SH1 for 65km to Pokeno. Exit the motorway here and stop for an ice-cream and stock up with diesel. Port Waikato’s Wharf Store has a lone petrol pump but no diesel. Turn left just out of Pokeno to head west toward Tuakau. 8km later you will come to a T - intersection. Turn left as directed toward Port Waikato on SH22. 5km later and just over the bridge crossing the mighty Waikato River turn right, as signposted, to Port Waikato. Follow this road through the country side for 25km to the holiday oasis that awaits you.
From Auckland:

Head south on SH1 for 50 odd kms (depending where in Auckland you began your journey) and travel over the Bombay Hills. Just past the turnoff to the Corromandel (don’t turn off here) is Pokeno. Exit the motorway at Pokeno, grab some diesel and an ice-cream and follow the instructions from Pokeno to Port Waikato as above.
From Pukekohe:

Alternately leave the Auckland Southern motorway at the exit to Pukekohe. Stock up in Pukekohe for essentials you want, need or just like the look of and continue south on SH22 for 16km. Just over the bridge crossing the Waikato River is the well signposted turn off to Port Waikato. 25km down this road and you are there.
