Events

The Port of Waikato plays host to a number of community events throughout the year. Why not plan your holiday to coincide with one of these and make a real event of it.

Fishing Competitions

Auckland Anniversary weekend boasts the Port Waikato Family fishing Competition. There is a prize for every kid that enters plus chips and drink to sustain them while on the job - all included in the nominal entry fee.

Easter is the time for the Port Waikato Kawhai Classic. Surfcast off the beach, or fish from the comfort of your rocking boat. A $1000 prize awaits the proudest Kawhai caught on the day.

Surf Comp

The Hyundai Pro Longboard competition visits Port Waikato late March, where the best long boarders in the country battle it out in the waves for the $3000 grand prize.

Bush Carnival

January 2nd is the day to be at Port Waikato for the infamous Port Waikato Bush Carnival. Fun and entertainment for the whole family. The day features a rodeo including bucking broncos and barrel racing.

There are sheep rides and steer riding for the littlies and for the not so little, there is a greasy pig hunt which is a bit like watching junior league rugby, but where the pig skin is rather greasy, has legs and a motivation to evade the little players grasp.
